A proposta de uma nova ortografia traz a incerteza de sua aplicabilidade. Se a maioria da população brasileira ainda não assimilou as antigas regras ortográficas, certamente ignorará as novas e o Novo Acordo será apenas mais uma tentativa de unificação. Sendo assim, a decisão de Portugal querer impor sua língua deveria nos incentivar a corrigir a injustiça praticada contra o nheengatu, ou Língua Geral, e consagrarmos nosso falar como língua brasileira, idioma com total independência linguística. Uma língua com a cara do Brasil, que retrate nossa realidade sociocultural e que seja fiel ao falar que o brasileiro escolheu. Nenhum país evolui de forma idêntica. As diferenças ortográficas entre os dois idiomas são visíveis e tornar-se-ão cada vez mais distintas a despeito de qualquer tentativa de aproximá-las.

The proposal for a new orthography brings doubts about its applicability. If the majority of the Brazilian population has not yet assimilated the old orthographic rules, they will certainly ignore the new ones and the New Agreement will be just another attempt at unification. Therefore, the decision of Portugal to want to impose its language should encourage us to correct the injustice practiced against nheengatu, or General Language, and to consecrate our speaking as a Brazilian language, a language with total linguistic independence. A language with Brazil's face, that portrays our socio-cultural reality and that is faithful when speaking that the Brazilian people chose. No country is evolving in the same way. The orthographic differences between the two languages are visible and will become increasingly distinct despite any attempt to bring them together.
